Proprietary Multi-Layer Defense

C2PA records hash values for the entire content — both audio and video — so even substituting just the video track while keeping the original audio is detectable as tampering. However, C2PA manifests are metadata, making them vulnerable to stripping through transcoding or re-upload. By combining Evixar's proprietary acoustic watermarking technology "EAW" (Evixar Audio Watermark) and acoustic fingerprinting technology "EFP" (Evixar Finger Print) as registered C2PA soft binding algorithms, SIGNED SOUND maintains provenance traceability from the audio signal itself even after C2PA metadata has been removed. Acoustic watermarks are embedded directly into the audio waveform itself, while fingerprints are derived from acoustic features extracted from the waveform and stored in a database. When sharing is welcome, but edited or altered versions must be distinguishable

Cutouts and references that help spread your content are welcome. As your signed material spreads, the mark spreads with it through cutouts and quotations. Meanwhile, fake reviews or fake ads with substituted audio show up as "not matching the official" upon verification.

When secondary creations are welcome, but forgeries must be distinguishable

Fan cutouts and reaction videos still carry the mark of the official source. AI-synthesized fake songs or "new tracks" the artist never recorded, on the other hand, lack the mark — making forgeries identifiable. The more widely known it is that official content carries a mark, the harder forgeries become to produce.

What is SIGNED SOUND?
SIGNED SOUND is a third-party certification cloud service for audio and video content that technically proves who registered a piece of content, when, and through what distribution path. It uses a four-layer approach — acoustic watermark (EAW), audio fingerprint (EFP), AI-generated audio detection, and C2PA provenance — to deliver high-confidence authenticity verification.
What is acoustic watermarking (EAW)?
EAW (Evixar Audio Watermark) ↗︎ embeds identifiers directly into audible-range audio signals — not into ultrasonic or other inaudible frequency bands. It works with standard speakers, microphones, and audio distribution equipment without specialized hardware. The impact on audio quality is negligible, and the watermark remains detectable after lossy compression and over-the-air speaker-to-microphone propagation. EAW is the first C2PA soft binding algorithm registered from Japan.
What is audio fingerprinting (EFP)?
EFP (Evixar Finger Print) ↗︎ identifies audio content by extracting acoustic features and matching them against a pre-registered content database. No modification to audio files is required, making it applicable to existing content assets without re-encoding. The identification result includes the playback position (timestamp in seconds), and matching is robust against lossy compression and re-encoding. Like EAW, EFP is also registered as a C2PA soft binding algorithm. Note: throughout this service, audio fingerprint (EFP) is referred to in short as "FP."
What is C2PA?
C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) ↗︎ is an international standard for recording and verifying the provenance of digital content. Adobe, Microsoft, Google, BBC, The New York Times, OpenAI and other leading companies and media organizations participate in the initiative. SIGNED SOUND generates and attaches provenance information based on the C2PA specification. C2PA records hash values for the entire content — both audio and video tracks — by uploading content to the verification service, tampering such as video track substitution while keeping the original audio can be detected. Additionally, EAW and EFP are registered as C2PA soft binding algorithms, enabling provenance tracing from the audio signal itself even if C2PA metadata has been stripped. The combination of EAW/EFP (audio layer) and C2PA (full content) enables comprehensive coverage of both audio and video content.
What file formats are supported?
MP4, WAV, MP3, and M4A formats are supported, with files up to 2GB per upload. For other file formats, streaming support, or other specialized requirements, please contact us.
What types of organizations is SIGNED SOUND suited for?

Who issues the provenance certificates?
Provenance certificates are issued by Shachihata Co., Ltd. as the issuing authority — a trusted brand with over 100 years of institutional authority in certification — providing third-party-verifiable proof of content authenticity.
Can existing audio and video content be verified retroactively?
Yes. Because acoustic fingerprinting (FP) requires no modification to audio files, previously created or distributed content can be registered into the FP database after the fact and included in verification queries. Archiving past press conference recordings or previously distributed content is fully supported. Note that acoustic watermark (EAW) embedding is performed at the time of new content registration.
How does SIGNED SOUND differ from other watermarking or C2PA products?
Conventional watermarking products can only verify content that had signals embedded before distribution. SIGNED SOUND's fingerprint (FP) technology enables DB matching against existing content without any prior embedding. Additionally, a four-layer architecture that includes a detection layer indicating the likelihood of AI-generated audio allows for more comprehensive verification than watermarking alone. SIGNED SOUND is a third-party certification cloud service purpose-built for audio and video, developed by Evixar on the strength of over 15 years of acoustic technology research.
Are the registered audio and video files stored on your servers?
What SIGNED SOUND retains as registration data is the metadata required for verification and matching — provenance information, fingerprints, and watermark data. The original audio and video files are automatically deleted from the server after a defined period following registration, and remain with you. This means you keep the original on your side while still being able to verify when needed.
What exactly does SIGNED SOUND "certify"?
SIGNED SOUND surfaces facts — match with registered content, provenance chain, and detection results. It does not certify the truthfulness, legality, or underlying rights of the content itself, and it does not make judgments of right or wrong. Decisions on how to respond — whether to request takedown, accept the use, or take no action — are left to the user.
